The son of the Sea, Manannan is not a true member of the Tuath, but has both a strong presence in their legends and is an ally of the Pantheon. He is the guardian of the Isle of Man, and has served as foster-father for many figures from the mythology of Ireland, the most powerful of whom was Lugh. He is a trickster, traveling the lands in disguise and fooling many different people to show them the error of their ways.

He was once married to Fand, a beautiful Fairy Queen, and with her had three daughters. But, Fand once fell in love with Cuchulain, the son of Lugh, and the two of them had an affair which offended both Cuchulain's wife, and Manannan. The God arrived before Emer could try to kill Fand, and wove his cloak of mists between Cuchulain and Fand so they would never see each other again. After this event, Manannan spent less and less time with Fand, though still watching over their three daughters.
