The patron of Tenochtitlan, the city which Mexico City was built upon, and guardian of his people who he lead far through the desert to bring them to the future home of their great Empire, Huitzilopochtli is one of the Four Tezcatlipocas of his Pantheon, leading them and technically equally important, though he is quick to remind his others that he is the one carrying the sun on his back and single handedly defending it from the forces of the night.

The God was conceived when a ball of feathers falling from the sky and impregnated his mother, Coatlicue, and though it was truly an immaculate conception, her daughter Coyolxauhqui and her four hundred sons descended on her, attempting to slay her, believing that she had had intercourse with an unknown man. With his mother threatened, Huitzilopochtli was instantly born and slaughtered his brothers, decapitating his sister and hurling her head into the night sky, which became the moon.
