Example Retainers

The Gods often offer their own beasts, or the children of their beasts, to a Scion both as potential guardians and to see how well the Scion is able to respect their favored creatures. Unlike Guides, Retainers are usually not powerful individuals who have left a mark upon the soul of the Scion, but instead beings that have been swept along in your own fateful momentum and gained power as a consequence of that. They serve a more supportive roll, and often fade into the background until their own time to shine presents itself.

Potential Retainers

As presented, here is a list of potential retainers that one could use in their own game, either for use by PCs or as NPCs, sorted by Pantheon.

Example Retainers

As presented here are some examples of Retainers that have been used in our games. Anyone is welcome to use any of these fully started Retainers themselves, or they can repurpose the unique powers of some of them to create their own Retainers for their own games running Scion 2.0.

Rank One

Iberian Warband - ●

A group of Iberian Celts bound to Idoya by The Phantom Queen serve the Scion with literally undying loyalty. Though, loyalty may be the wrong word, for they are rightfully terrified of the Goddess who has bound them to the Scion. They are otherwise brave, and skilled warriors, unable to be touched by death for long, but still mostly mortal.

Essuru Erimha - ●●●●●

Crows have gathered about James ever since the day he was born. They were always lurking outside his home or his school, perched upon trees and power lines. Waiting. Watching. They follow him wherever he goes, like some kind of bad omen. And once James grew old enough… they would even kill for him.

Tri Ean - ●●●●●

Three starlings who took seat on the changeling’s shoulders when that fact of his life was revealed. They fluttered around ‘Rory’ while he carved angry questions into a hawthorn tree, just in case one of the fair folk noticed and word got back to his apparent mother. He quickly overthrew their own minds, and whatever personalities they may have had, and taken control of the three bodies as his puppets. Extensions of his own will, serving as spies, and messengers for the fair faced monster.

Rank Eight

Haski - ●●●●● ●●●

A massive chimerical creature, a bastard cross of a large bull moose and a fox, Haski was given to Erik by Uller when he was sent out into the world, away from his mother and father's halls in the mountains, far, far from Asgard where he was born and raised. Haski is anthropophagic, or, in layman's terms, he greatly enjoys eating humans, but Erik does his best to keep the creature's appetite filled by having the creature drink his mixture of Jotun blood and Ichor. The beast is eternally loyal to Erik, likely due to the constant feeding of Jotunblut, and listens to the giant man, avoiding eating any of the tasty looking Scions who he travels with.

  • Dice: 22 Dice on skilled rolls, 11 Dice on non-skilled rolls.

  • Powers: Epic Strength 5 (Holy Rampage, Divine Rampage), Epic Dexterity 5 (Perfect Partner, Lightning Sprinter), Epic Stamina 5 (Holy Fortitude, Body Armor)

  • Abilities: Brawl, Fortitude

  • Perks:

    • Nemean Hide: Haski has an Armor rating equal to the number of Dots invested in him.

    • Anthropophagus: Once per Scene, if he consumes human flesh, or Erik's blood, Haski may roll Stamina + Fortitude and heal damage he has received. Aggravated converts down to Lethal, Lethal to Bashing, and Bashing vanishes. One point converts per Success gained.

    • Undying Loyalty: Haski may use Erik's MDV if he is following Erik's direct orders.
