A more petty and spiteful God there may not be, let alone one who is supposed to bring health and healing to their kin in the role of the physician of his people. Dian Cecht takes his role as physician of the Tuatha exceptionally seriously, and is willing to keep his role by force of arms. He helped in the creation of Nuada's silver hand, had a healing spring to rejuvenate the warriors of the Tuatha during the battle with the Fomori, and killed The Morrigan's infant son to save Ireland. Though, for the last case, it is only on his word that the child was dangerous.

Woe be to any of his children who seek to follow in his footsteps. When his son, Miach, surpassed his skill in healing and regrew Nuada's missing hand to its original perfection, Dian Cecht struck him three times in the head with his sword. The first two blows, Miach healed, but the third reached his brain, and Miach died, for none can heal such a wound. When his daughter, Airmed, wept over the grave of her brother, herbs of great medical power sprung from the earth, and Airmed was to use them to bring her brother back from the dead. Rather than allow his son to return, Dian Cecht scattered them across the world, damning his daughter to a ceaseless search, and leaving the other slain Gods without hope.
