Family Tree
The Æsir are a Pantheon made of a core family of Gods descended from Odin, and augmented by some hostage Vanir Gods. The rest of their ranks hold several allied giants. As a whole, they are the Gods of Scandinavia and the Germanic people who left a mark on the Western World through their raids on Ireland and Europe, their service for the Emperors of Constantinople, and their landings in Newfoundland.
The Aesir are a Pantheon doomed by the overwhelming power of Fate, and they might very well drag the world down alongside them. They are proud warriors, and powerful magicians; watching over the Nine Worlds from their home in Asgard as Odin continues his great machinations to free his people from their doom by any means necessary.
Virtues: Courage, Endurance, Expression, Loyalty
Baldur - the ever loved son of the Æsir, doomed to die by his brother's hand and start the events that bring about Ragnarok. Baldur is a God of light, though the source of these associations is up to some debate. Some whisper that Fate pushed Baldur with some of the roles of Christ when his Pantheon's people were converted.
Freyr - God of virility, and brother of Freya, he is a fellow hostage of the Æsir after his birth family was conquered. He rides a giant boar made of gold, and wields an antler as his weapon since he lost his blade, something which will spell his doom. Just as his sister is incredibly sexually active, Freyr is too (as one can assume from his cult statues) though his conquests are not as taboo in the eyes of the Æsir.
Heimdall - the guardian of the rainbow bridge, and gatekeeper of the Æsir, keeping a watchful eye over the nine worlds. He is a psychopomp of great renown, though he seems to have either a very poor sense of aim when dropping off the Æsir at their destinations with the bridge, or a wicked sense of humor.
Loki - the blood brother of Odin, the Liesmith is a constant source of problems, and oftentimes the much-needed solutions for the Æsir. But, despite Fated to commit a great treachery, he may be their most loyal member. Modern depictions tend to ignore the fact that he is a true giant, with blazing red hair like his friend Thor.
Odin - the Allfather, and Chief of the Norse Pantheon. All seeing from his high throne, Odin seeks to free the gods from their fated Doom. The Allfather is rather bad at being monogamous, and has had many children away from his wife Frigg.
Tyr - the bravest of the Æsir, who willingly placed his hand in the mouth of the great wolf Fenrir, knowing it would be devoured. Long, long ago, he may have been Allfather before Odin... however impossible that may be.
Freya - the Queen of the Valkyries, and the most beautiful Goddess in the Pantheon, taken as a hostage after the Æsir-Vanir War. She is one of the Goddesses closest associated with modern Western values for women, being incredibly independent for the women of the Æsir, though she is ridiculed for it by the Gods and Goddesses.
Frigg - wife of Odin and keeper of many of his secrets. A prophet, and magician of great power who will have had all of reality, save for fateful mistletoe, sworn never to harm her beloved son Baldur. She is the only of the Æsir who is able to challenge the Allfather in her own way, and has great political power through being able to get away with fooling Odin with little to no consequences.
Hel - half-corpse daughter of Loki who was banished to Helheim out of fear by Odin, as her brothers were thrown to the sea, and chained. It is speculated that her lack of desire to let Baldur leave her underworld is not from spite to the wondrous God, but a desire to keep him for herself, for her halls are very lonely, and she is only given company by the depressed dead and her hound Gram.
Njord - the father of Freya, and Freyr, and a God of sea and storms. He was taken hostage, along with his children, after the Æsir-Vanir war. He waits for the end of days when he may return to his sister-wife, and the rest of his family which he was taken from, though knows even with that joy, the sorrow of a slain son will go with him.
Thor - the storm God, and wielder of the great hammer Mjolnir, Thor is the strongest warrior of his Pantheon, and an ever-present threat to all Giants. He is one of the most recognizable of the Norse Gods, and is good friends with Loki, even if on occasion he grows rash and threatens to hurt his friend.
Uller - the God of skiing and hunting, a distant figure who once lead the Pantheon when Odin was once deposed. He has since been banished from the Pantheon, and travels the Nine Worlds, enjoying himself with his new wife Skadi, avoiding Thor and Odin when he can. Not particularly welcome in the home of the Æsir.
