The God of protection, and sustaining the creations of Brahma until it is time for Shiva to destroy them, Vishnu serves as one of the Triumrti, leading his Pantheon along with Shiva and Brahma.

Vishnu serves as humanity's guardian, and when times of great strife come down on the earth, Vishnu too comes down as an Avatara to see that things end justly for the people of the world. It is said that Vishnu's tenth Avatar will be the final, and will herald the end of days, though some of the later figures who are described as Avataras of Vishnu may not be, for Vishnu himself and few others are the only keepers of that knowledge.
