Athena

Patron and protector of Athens, Athena is one of the Theoi most active in the lives of their Heroes. She has assisted many of them in her time, giving them advice and guiding them to greatness, even if they did not realize who she was. She serves as one of the Theoi's two war Deities, standing in a dualistic opposition to Ares, instead being the tactical and planned general, compared to his bloody warlord.
Having been born to Zeus by leaping from his head, fully armored, after Zeus ate the Titan Metis in fear she would bear the son who is to slay him, Athena is one of her father's most staunch supporters, though during the Trojan War she tended to have slight lapses in following his commands as most of the Theoi did. Though, one must remember that Athena too is spiteful, and when a mortal woman, Arachne, dared to say that she was a better weaver than Athena was, and when they tied in a contest with Arachne depicting scenes of debaucheries and vile things the Gods had done, she turned the mortal into a spider.
A Rise and Fall
As mentioned, Athena rose in popularity in the Hellenistic period as far as we can tell, usurping Ares as primary War Deity, or, most popular in the least. However, this did not last.
Minerva, Athena's Roman interpretation, became far less martial than her Greek opposite, and Ares, as Mars rose once again not only to prominence, but dominance.
Just why this happened, this dance of the War Deities, could make an intriguing piece of divine politics.
