We planted 5-6 April 18 in Ted Evan's research greenhouse. Lauren, Zach, Megan and Shay helped.
Soil: sungro propagation mix #3 from Steven Regan in town; bought 3 bags (didn't use most of 3rd bag)
Pots: same as truncatula 2017; used 600 of them
Flats: solid ones used in truncatula 2017 for transporting back to BNR
Tags: Pylon L-6-L 6" from Steve Regan in town
Flats with holes in the bottom for storing 10 pots per (524WEBBS Landmark - IL1020SS 1020 Solid Side Web Tray - 50/Case from Steve Regan in town; bought 2 cases)
We removed a lot of dirt from the benches 30 March 18. Tara bleached the benches over the weekend. All of Ted's dirty stuff is still in the room, so pests could be a problem. Ted has shade cloth that will might want to use.
Greenhouse set to: 24C, no overhead lights
Once established, plan on watering M, W, F. Until them - light shower at least twice a day.
Inoculant: Nitragin Gold for alfalfa from Monsanto (borrowed some from Ramirez lab).
Scarify seeds with sand paper, add to container with a tiny bit of inoculant, shake/ mix, plant. Wear mask and gloves when using inoculant.
Add damp soil to pots. Make a small divet in soil for two seeds per pot, cover seeds with light layer of soil.
See the "alfalfa-2018" google drive folder I made for photos, data sheets, etc.
