Kei hopu tōu ringa ki te aka tāepa, engari kia mau ki te aka matua.
Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines are related but different ways of thinking and of solving problems. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world in which they live.
This course offers a combination of both internal and external credits
This course is University approved

You will gain a good overall general understanding of mathematics without specialising too much in statistics or algebra. This course aims to prepare students for careers where a broad understanding of mathematics is required such as vocational career, university, army and navy.
In this course you will learn how to engage with mathematics through real life contextual problems that aim to prepare you for a range of careers where these skills may be needed.
In the Year 13 Mathematics course you will learn a broad range of maths from both algebra and statistics . Knowledge of algebra as well as some experience writing statistics reports is helpful, but not necessary, for this course.
Your work will have the opportunity to be assessed through four internal achievement standards and one external achievement standard. The standards involved will give students a well-rounded experience in mathematics with a particular focus on modelling and problem solving at level 3, covering a range of topics set in different contexts.
Standard AS91575 - Trigonometric Methods (internal)
Standard AS91580 - Time Series (internal)
Standard AS91587 - Simultaneous Equations (internal)
Standard AS91574 - Linear Programming (internal)
Standard AS91267 - Probability Methods (internal)
