Kei hopu tōu ringa ki te aka tāepa, engari kia mau ki te aka matua.
Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines are related but different ways of thinking and of solving problems. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world in which they live.
This course offers a combination of both internal and external credits

This course lays the foundation for further study in mathematics. It can also help students gain mathematical skills required for employment, for entry into Level 3 programmes, or for courses beyond college. It is highly recommended for students to take this course if they wish to take Level 3 Calculus.
You will develop a mathematical approach to solving a variety of problems. This will include learning a wide variety of mathematical functions, skills and techniques to solve a range of real world problems.
In Year 12 Calculus topics students will cover include trigonometry, modelling with functions, and graphing. They will also spend a significant amount of time developing a broad range of algebra and calculus skills as well as logical thinking. If you enjoy algebra this is the course for you!
Your work will have the opportunity to be assessed through three of the four internal standards available and two external achievement standards.
Standard AS91256 - Coordinate Geometry (internal)
Standard AS91257 - Graphical Methods (internal)
Standard AS91259 - Trigonometric Relationships (internal)
Standard AS91261 - Algebraic Methods (external)
Standard AS91262 - Calculus (external)
Standard AS91269 - Systems of Equations (optional internal)
Highly Recommended Resources:
graphics calculator (can be purchased from school $115; price to be confirmed at time of purchase)
topic specific workbooks (can be purchased from school; total cost can be up to $32)
