Design and Visual Communication, design consists of product design and spatial design. Design encompasses the ideation, exploration, progression, and communication of design ideas into potential outcomes that serve a specific purpose, provide innovative possibilities, and can be informed by design heritage and a designer’s perspective.

The study of Design and Visual Communication gives you an insight into the world of architecture and product design and the creative industries that surround it. It teaches students how to think like a designer and approach situations in a creative way both socially and culturally. By developing the skills and techniques of Design and Visual Communication, learners will discover how to give form to and express their ideas.
In this course you will learn how to:
Develop ideation drawing skills
Create drawings using computer applications
Develop spaces in Architecture
Develop technical product designs
Read and interpret design briefs
Use critical thinking to reflect on your designs to improve your design ideas
In year 12 Design and Visual Communication you will gain skills in:
Product design
Spatial design
Model making and presentation
Computer generated drawings
Research and evaluation
Your work will be assessed through internal assessments and external exams.
Standard AS19337 - Use visual communication techniques to generate design ideas (external)
Standard AS19340 - Use the characteristics of a design movement or era to inform own design ideas (internal)
Standard AS19341 - Develop a spatial design through graphics practice (internal)
Standard AS19342 - Develop a product design through graphics practice (internal)
