The Social Sciences learning area is about how societies work and how people can participate as critical, active, informed, and responsible citizens. Contexts are drawn from the past, present, and future and from places within and beyond New Zealand.

This course is aimed at those students wishing further study within Commerce.
The study of this course helps students with the practical aspects of running their own business and understanding of how New Zealand global business operates. It covers marketing, human resource management and gives an insight into the internal and external factors that influence a business operating in a global context. You will develop your own innovative and sustainable business.
You will establish and run your own business as well as integrating all the factors affecting global New Zealand business.
You will be assessed on internal and external standards - 2 internal and 1 external (combined total of 19 credits), selected from the following achievement standards:
Standard AS91379 - Demonstrate understanding of how internal factors interact within a business that operates in a global context (external) - UE Lit Reading/Writing
Standard AS91380 - Demonstrate understanding of strategic response to external factors by a business that operates in a global context (external) - UE Lit Reading/Writing
Standard AS91382 - Develop a marketing plan for a new or existing product (internal) - UE Lit Reading
Standard AS91384 - Carry out, with consultation, an innovative and sustainable business activity (internal)
