Kei hopu tōu ringa ki te aka tāepa, engari kia mau ki te aka matua.
Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines are related but different ways of thinking and of solving problems. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world in which they live.
This course offers a combination of mostly internal and one external credits

This course lays the foundation for further study in mathematics. It can also help students gain mathematical skills required for employment, for entry into Level 3 programmes, or for courses beyond college. It is highly recommended for students to take this course if they wish to take Level 3 Statistics.
You will develop a mathematical approach to solving a variety of problems. This will include learning a wide variety of statistical analysis, skills and techniques to solve a range of real world problems.
A significant part of the course is developing skills of different statistical techniques by applying maths in different areas as well as developing logical thinking.
Your work will have the opportunity to be assessed through internal achievement standards and an external achievement standard.
Standard AS91258 - Sequences and Series (internal)
Standard AS91260 - Networks (internal)
Standard AS91264 - Inference (internal)
Standard AS91265 - Experiments (internal)
Standard AS91267 - Probability Methods (external)
Standard AS91268 - Simulations (internal)
