Learning a new language provides a means of communicating with people from another culture and exploring one’s own personal world. Languages and cultures play a key role in developing our personal, group, national, and human identities. Every language has its own ways of expressing meanings; each has intrinsic value and special significance for its users.

Learning Spanish is a rewarding endeavor that opens doors to new experiences and opportunities. With over 460 million native speakers worldwide, learning this vibrant language enables effective communication with a vast and diverse community. From a practical standpoint, Spanish language skills enhance career prospects, as it is highly sought after in various industries. By learning Spanish, one gains not only linguistic skills but also a broader worldview and a connection to the richness of Hispanic heritage.
In this course, you will learn how to interact with others in Spanish about everyday life through various familiar topics. Students will learn to communicate about the present and past. This includes sharing information about your hobbies and interests, your daily routine, your town and describing your house, learning about clothing and how to interact in a restaurant. There is an expectation that students will do lots of speaking with their peers, to improve their spoken Spanish skills.
You will learn to communicate in Spanish using a range of skills. This involves:
interacting with others in the class in Spanish through games, pair work, and role play
listening and responding to authentic texts such as YouTube videos, songs, and audio.
reading and responding to short texts which include familiar vocabulary
developing writing and grammatical skills by using mini whiteboards, online resources, and games
Your work will be assessed through internals assessments, including:
