Classical studies is the study of the people, places, and events of the classical world and how they influence the modern world. Classical studies is an interdisciplinary subject: students engage with literature, languages, art, history, science, technology, religion, and philosophy.
You will learn to explore community, cultural identity, values, and perspectives and think critically about human behaviour and relationships to appreciate the civilisations of ancient Greece and Rome, understand the past and the present, and to imagine possible futures.
In Year 12 Classics we will explore how mythological stories of heroes have influenced modern heroes. We will use our imagination to travel with Odyssey as he returns to Ithaca after leaving for the Trojan War 20 years earlier. We will be introduced to the life and times of Julius Caesar and explore the impact he had on the fall of the Roman Republic and the rise of Augustus.
You will be assessed on internal and external standards.
Standard AS91200 - Ideas and values of the classical world (Homer’s Odyssey) (external) - UE Lit Reading/Writing
