Physical Education uses a range of physical contexts to cover human movement; anatomy and biomechanics, safety in the outdoors, improving physical performance through training, motor learning techniques, leadership, and significant issues in NZ society. In this subject, students learn in, through, and about movement.

This course is designed for those wishing for further study in Physical Education. This course will involve a variety of sporting and physical activity contexts to allow students learn in, through and about movement.
This course will focus on the importance of taking part in movement and the joy movement can bring into our lives. Students will learn that movement is a vehicle for learning social, emotional, intellectual and cultural capabilities. Students will study biophysical principles such as functional anatomy, exercise physiology, sports psychology and biomechanics. Students will learn how these relate to the experience of movement and the performance of skilled movement.
Students will learn through movement and be expected to be active participants in the practical lessons, as well as theory lessons.
Your work will be assessed through both practical and written internal achievement standards and an external achievement standard.
Standard AS92016 - Apply movement strategies in an applied setting (internal)
Standard AS92017 - Demonstrate understanding of how kotahitanga is promoted in movement through application of strategies (internal)
Standard AS92018 - Demonstrate the understanding of the influence of a personal movement experience on hauora (external) - to be confirmed
