Effective and ethical design respects the unique relationship that New Zealanders have with their physical environment and embraces the significance of Māori culture and world views in its practice and innovation.

Design and innovation are key concepts in the year 12 program and students will explore a given context to provide a starting point that will encourage abstraction and innovation in the students’ design work. This is accomplished through learning lots of interesting techniques and processes and the manipulation of materials to produce high quality outcomes.
In this course you will learn lots of interesting techniques and processes and the manipulation of materials to produce high quality outcomes.
Students will learn:
Patternmaking
Applied design
Advanced garment construction
Fashion design drawing portfolio
Design competitions
Design critique report
Your work will be assessed through two internal achievement standards and one external achievement standard.
Standard AS91345 - Implement advanced procedures using textiles materials to make a specified product with special features (internal)
Standard AS91346 - Develop a conceptual design for an outcome (internal)
Standard AS91347 - Undertake effective development to make and trial a prototype (internal)
Standard AS91349 - Demonstrate understanding of the role of material evaluation in product development (external)
