Ko tōu reo, ko tōku reo, te tuakiri tangata. Tīhei uriuri, tīhei nakonako.
Learning a new language provides a means of communicating with people from another culture and exploring one’s own personal world. Languages and cultures play a key role in developing our personal, group, national, and human identities. Every language has its own ways of expressing meanings; each has intrinsic value and special significance for its users.
This course offers both a combination of internal and external assessment.

French is an official language in 29 countries, spoken by more than 300 million people worldwide. French is an important language for international business and diplomacy and can open up career opportunities in law, banking, fashion, and tourism. Learning a language helps develop communication skills as well as strengthening cognitive ability. It allows us to develop cultural empathy and a better understanding of our own language and culture. As well as learning to speak French, the skills gained from learning another language can be transferred and applied across all aspects of our lives.
In this course, you will learn how to interact with others in French about everyday life through various more extended topics using more complex language. This includes sharing information about your hopes and dreams, relationships and giving advice, living healthily, and comparing cultures, technology, and environmental issues.
You will learn to communicate in French using a range of skills. This involves:
interacting with others in the class in French through games, pair work, and role play
listening and responding to authentic texts such as YouTube videos, songs, and audio.
reading and responding to short texts which include familiar vocabulary
developing writing and grammatical skills by using mini whiteboards, online resources, and games
Your work will be assessed through three internal achievement standards and two external standards
