Kei hopu tōu ringa ki te aka tāepa, engari kia mau ki te aka matua.
Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines are related but different ways of thinking and of solving problems. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world in which they live.
This course offers a combination of both internal and external credits
This course is University approved

This course lays the foundation for further study in mathematics at tertiary level. It can also help students gain mathematical skills required for employment. if you enjoy maths, this is a good course to enrol in. The maths learned will also compliment the sciences, particualrly physics.
You will continue to learn and build upon the mathematical ideas, concepts and techniques you learned in Level 2. This course has a strong focus on algebra and calculus (differentiation and integration). You will develop a deeper understanding of the concepts and structures of mathematics as well as continue to develop your mathematical approach to problem solving by applying mathematics in a wide variety of contexts.
In Year 13 Calculus there is strong focus on learning calculus (two external standards) as well as exploring other areas of maths (modelling with trigonometric functions, conics and simultaneous equations). There is a large amount of algebra in this course, so if you like a challenge (and you like algebra), this is the course for you.
Complex Algebra (an external) may be offered as an optional paper, depending on interest.
Your work will have the opportunity to be assessed through three internal standards and two external achievement standards. There is a third external (Complex Algebra) but this is optional and only offered depending on interest. If offered, it is taught outside of normal timetabled hours.
Standard AS91573 - Conics (internal)
Standard AS91575 - Trigonometric Methods (internal)
Standard AS91577 - Complex Numbers (optional external)
Standard AS91578 - Differentiation (external)
Standard AS91579 - Integration (external)
Standard AS91587 - Simultaneous Equations (internal)
