Kei hopu tōu ringa ki te aka tāepa, engari kia mau ki te aka matua.
Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines are related but different ways of thinking and of solving problems. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world in which they live.
This course offers a combination of both internal and external credits

You will gain a good overall general understanding of mathematics without specialising too much in statistics or algebra. This course aims to prepare students for careers where a broad understanding of mathematics is required such as vocational career, army and navy. This course will prepare you for general mathematics at Year 13.
In this course you will learn how to engage with mathematics through real life contextual problems that aim to prepare you for a range of careers where these skills may be needed.
In the Year 12 Mathematics course you will cover learn a broad range of maths from both algebra and statistics. There are three internals which require some algebra: trigonometry, coordinate geometry, and graphing with the remaining standards being statistics based. Knowledge of algebra is useful, but not necessary, for this course.
Your work will have the opportunity to be assessed through a mixture internal and external standards. You will sit a minimum of 14 credits through internal assessments with at least one external for endorsement.
Standard AS91256 - Coordinate Geometry (internal)
Standard AS91257 - Graphical Methods (internal)
Standard AS91258 - Sequences and Series (optional internal)
Standard AS91259 - Trigonometric Relationships (internal)
Standard AS91260 - Networks - optional (optional internal)
Standard AS91264 - Inference (internal)
Standard AS91267 - Probability Methods (external)
Standard AS91268 - Simulations - optional (optional internal)
