Physics is the study of the fundamental laws governing our world. By investigating the interactions of matter and energy, physicists aim to comprehend the natural world - from the tiniest subatomic particles to the vast expanse of the universe.
As well as serving as a foundation for many of scientific disciplines, physics is important for its applications to many careers, including (but not limited to):
Engineering
Health and medical fields
Trades
Sports science
Music and sound engineering
Electronics
Aviation
In this course you will gain an understanding of the basic concepts, principles and models in physics. You will develop an ability to apply these ideas to solve practical problems, and will have a better appreciation for the role of physics in the world around us.
You will take a hands-on approach to investigate physics concepts and relationships in areas such as mechanics, electricity and nuclear physics.
Your work will be assessed through two internal achievement standards and two external achievement standards. You will also have the choice of doing one optional internal achievement standard.
Standard AS91968 - Non-linear Relationships (internal)
Standard AS91969 - Physics in Context - optional (internal)
Standard AS91171 - Mechanics (external)
Standard AS91172 - Atomic and Nuclear Physics (internal)
Standard AS91173 - Electricity and Electromagnetism (external)
