Te toi whakairo, ka ihiihi, ka wehiwehi, ka aweawe te ao katoa.
The arts are powerful forms of expression that recognise, value, and contribute to the unique bicultural and multicultural character of Aotearoa New Zealand, enriching the lives of all New Zealanders. The arts have their own distinct languages that use both verbal and non-verbal conventions, mediated by selected processes and technologies. Through movement, sound, and image, the arts transform people’s creative ideas into expressive works that communicate layered meanings.

Painting encourages self expression and creativity. It helps build confidence and a sense of individual identity while developing critical thinking to interpret the world around us.
In this course you will develop your understanding of art practice by completing a meaningful and comprehensive body of artworks in the field of painting.
Students develop a sequence of drawings, technical studies and completed works based on their personal choice of theme, developing their ideas to show an understanding of art making conventions in painting.
Your work will be assessed through two internal achievement standards and one external achievement standard.
Standard AS91446 - Use drawing to demonstrate understanding of conventions appropriate to painting (internal)
Standard AS91451 - Systematically clarify ideas using drawing informed by established painting practice (internal)
Standard AS91456 - Produce a systematic body of work (portfolio) that integrates conventions and regenerates ideas within painting practice (external)
