Outdoor Education is about developing an understanding and an appreciation of all elements of the outdoors. Recognition of the importance of our outdoor setting: what it provides for us and how we can help maintain it and look after it. This understanding and appreciation will be developed through a variety of practical experiences.
This course offers internal assessment and no external examination
This course offers Level 1 literacy credits

NOTE - Students can not take both 11OE and 11PE, as they offer the same Achievement Standards

Outdoor Education promotes fitness, personal development, environmental responsibility, teamwork, risk management and hands-on learning. It emphasises physical, mental, and social growth while appreciating nature, diverse communities, and teaching students how to effectively manage risks.
In this course you will learn about:
Outdoor Skills: Navigation, first aid, communication, teamwork.
Problem Solving: Analytical thinking, adaptability.
Risk Management: Hazard identification, informed decisions.
Resilience: Overcoming challenging situations and obstacles.
Self-Confidence: Trusting abilities, taking risks.
Ethics: Responsible practices.
Nature Appreciation: Valuing the natural world (Doc Care Code)
The major themes of work are centered around:
Adventure Based Learning
Kayaking (Waikanae Pools and Pauatahanui Inlet)
Mountain Biking (QE2 Park and Whareroa Farm)
Rock Climbing and Abseiling (Hangdog)
Tramping (Overnight tramp in the Tararua Ranges)
Orienteering (Mazengarb Park and Waikanae River)
Your work will be assessed through both practical and written internal achievement standards and an external achievement standard.
Standard AS92016 - Apply movement strategies in an applied setting (internal)
Standard AS92017 - Demonstrate understanding of how kotahitanga is promoted in movement through application of strategies (internal)
Standard AS92018 - Demonstrate the understanding of the influence of a personal movement experience on hauora (external) - to be confirmed
Donation Request: $130
The donation request covers all offsite trips including transport, guide fees, venue costs, equipment hire and gear required for trips.
