Engineering is a practical and multi-disciplinary program for students, providing them with the skills and knowledge to springboard into any career in the mechanical engineering and manufacturing industry. Rather than focusing on any one trade, Technology - Engineering offers students the entry into a mechanical engineering and manufacturing pathway skills (MaPS). They also develop literacy, numeracy and communication skills and contribute to NCEA qualifications.

This course offers students the entry into a mechanical engineering and manufacturing pathway skills (MaPS). This course offers unit standard credits which include both theory and practical knowledge and skills from an external provider; Competenz. This course may lead students toward a trades based pathway in mechanical engineering or automotive or related industries.
In this course Students will learn
Safety in an engineering workshop
How to develop and evaluate a simple product.
Basic mechanical engineering skills and knowledge (MaPS.)
Students will:
learn safety practices in an engineering workshop.
Make a Gear Shift knob - using a range of engineering practices and procedures, hand tools and fixed machinery to make a practical project.
Make own design - Students use their knowledge and skills, learnt during their first project to design, develop, manufacture, test and evaluate a simple product (tool or device). The design project will require teacher or HoD approval before commencement.
Your work will be assessed through both practical and written internal unit standards.
