There is an enormous range of career pathways in the agricultural and horticultural industry of New Zealand. This course provides valuable insight and understanding of life processes and how they are manipulated for the purpose of food and fibre production. We examine soil, plants, livestock and locations in relation to sustainable practices, and the future of primary industry in our country.
You will learn about factors that influence the purpose and location of different animal and plant production systems. You will look at management practices used to modify the soil in these systems. You will learn about basic physiological functiuons of plants and animals, and research the management practices that affect these functions.
You will develop understanding of life processes, production systems and management practices, through a combination of classroom learning, practical experiences in our nursery, and field trips to farms and orchards.
There is an external exam at the end of the year for the soil management standard. The other two standards are internally assessed standards that require research and report writing.
