Kei hopu tōu ringa ki te aka tāepa, engari kia mau ki te aka matua.
Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines are related but different ways of thinking and of solving problems. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world in which they live.

You will gain a broad understanding of statistics and general mathematics. This course will aim to prepare you for mathematics in all of the year 12 mathematics courses. Students studying this course will be able to use their understanding of mathematics to further their studies in subjects such as science, technology and social sciences.
In this course you will learn about how to use statistics to help efforts to conserve local fauna and flora, and natural resources. You will also learn how to use mathematics to explore local engineering projects and concepts.
You will study mathematics and its application to real life problems in the local context of the Kapiti Coast and the wider Wellington Region.
Your work will have the opportunity to be assessed through three of the four standards available - two internal achievement standards and two external achievement standards.
Standard AS91944 - Explore data using statistical enquiry process (internal)
Standard AS91945 - Use mathematical methods to explore problems that relate to life in Aotearoa New Zealand or the Pacific (internal)
Standard AS91946 - Interpret and apply mathematical and statistical information in context (external)
Standard AS91947 - Demonstrate mathematical reasoning (external)
