Sports Leadership is focused on providing students with experience in coaching, event management, and developing leadership skills. Students will learn how effective teams work and the skills required to be a valuable team player. They will go to Primary Schools and coach sporting skills. Students will also design a sporting event, organise sponsorship and run the event.
This course offers internal assessment and no external examination
NOTE: Students should not be selecting more than two PE options as part of a completed timetable. H.O.D. approval is required if students wish to take more than 2 PE courses (ie 12OE and 12PS).

This course is designed for students with an interest in sports coaching, event management and working with young children.
In this course students will learn leadership principles and how to effectively work in a team. Students will acquire and develop skills in practical settings such as coaching primary school students, and coordinating and leading tournaments. Students will also build their capacity to officiate and coach a summer or winter sports team.
Students will learn through movement and be expected to be active participants in the practical lessons, as well as theory lessons.
Your work will be assessed through both practical and written internal achievement and unit standards.
Standard AS91332 - Leadership strategies in physical activity (internal)
Standard AS91334 - Social responsibility in physical activity (internal)
Standard AS91335 - Implementing an event (internal)
Standard AS91336 - Group processes in physical activity (internal)
Standard US22768 - Conduct and review a beginner level coaching session (internal)
Additional Costs: $10 for the coaching shirt to be worn in practical sessions and while representing the College at Primary Schools, and events. This shirt can be worn in year 13 Sports Leadership also.
