The Year 13 Careers course focuses on giving you the opportunity to develop your employability skills, workplace literacy and career / future pathway awareness. You will have the opportunity to access workplace exposure, exploration and experience as well as tertiary based learning.

A career is not just a job. It is about the skills and experiences you learn over a lifetime from whānau, culture, life, friendships, community activities, leisure choice, work and learning. Ākonga (students) are encouraged in this course to become self aware and explore their own strengths, interests, values and life experiences. Ākonga (students) need to know themselves and what is involved and available in the world of work in order to decide and act on future pathways. Level 3 Careers Academy will equip ākonga (students) for employment and further vocational education. Work Experience is a required part of this course. This course is designed to support ākonga (students) who are on the Gateway Work Experience Programme.
This course will build on work ready skills learned in Years 11 and 12 and equip students for employment or vocational education. Ākonga (students) may have the opportunity to achieve credits related to their specific industry experience.
Getting Ready for the World of Work - Te Ao Mahi
Ākonga (students) will develop the ability to be self-regulating, skilled learners who grow in confidence and the understanding of what the characteristics are of a great employee. Ākonga (students) will also learn about their rights and obligations as both an employee and a consumer. Ākonga (students) will have the opportunity to gain real life experience through a variety of activities such as the Employee Speed Meet, The Work Ready Passport (if not done in Year 12), volunteer work in the community and the Gateway Work Experience Programme.
Your work will be assessed through both open and closed book internal unit standards.
