Kaua e rangiruatia te hāpai o te hoe; e kore tō tātou waka e ū ki uta.
Do not lift the paddle out of unison or our canoe will never reach the shore.
Technology is about creativity and innovation. It is about how we intervene with our world using design, and how our world intervenes with, influences, and changes (even designs) us.
Technology learning is about gaining a deep insight into our world, being analytical and accountable for the decisions we make as we intervene, asking always, “if we can do something, should we?”
This course is internally and externally assessed

This course aims to promote students' practical design, planning, construction and applied research skills. Students will be encouraged to be innovative, creative in the way they approach design situations. They will develop their practical skills by learning and using traditional tools and modern technology to best solve the design problem.
Students will learn how to use and manipulate different resistance materials and implement these together. Students also learn how to process and manufacture products, and evaluate their outcomes.
Some examples of previous year projects are: concrete pavers, industrial stool, kitchen knife block and flat pack coffee table.
Your work will be assessed through two internal achievement standards and an external achievement standard.
Standard AS91344 - Implement advanced procedures using resistant materials to make a specified product with special features (internal)
Standard AS91351 - Implement advanced procedures to process a specified product (internal)
Standard AS91355 - Select and use planning tools to manage the development of an outcome (internal)
Standard AS91358 - Demonstrate understanding of how technological modelling supports risk management (external)
