The study of sustainable production of food and fibre is essential to the New Zealand economy, as over sixty percent of New Zealand’s exports are primary products, some of which are processed. The job markets in these industries are readily transferable, secure and well paid.
In this course you will learn how scientists, growers and government work together to ensure New Zealand has a prosperous and sustainable primary industry.
You will focus on a product of your choice, and research how that industry is tracking with the environmental and societal changes affecting its ongoing profitability. You will be trained on how to conduct consumer preference research and produce data that can be fed back to the industry.
Your work will be assessed through two internal achievement standards and you will have the option of being assessed through three external achievement standards.
