There is an enormous range of career pathways in the agricultural and horticultural industry of New Zealand. This course provides valuable insight and understanding of the technology, management strategies and sustainable practices that are the future of food and fibre production in our country.
You will learn about plant and animal life processes, and how these are optimised by growers to create a sustainable industry - both financially and environmentally.
You will explore different production systems in the classroom and consolidate this learning with practical experiences in our nursery. You will work alongside local community groups such as the Waikanae Estuary Care Group. You will develop understanding of production practices that optimise harvest and minimise waste. You will work with the environment, developing skills that support a sustainable farming future.
Your learning will be assessed throughout the year, covering:
Plant biology and physiology
Soils and livestock management
Pasture and crop management
Mahinga Kai and sustainable food production
