Design and Visual Communication, design consists of product design and spatial design. Design encompasses the ideation, exploration, progression, and communication of design ideas into potential outcomes that serve a specific purpose, provide innovative possibilities, and can be informed by design heritage and a designer’s perspective.

The study of Design and Visual Communication gives you an insight into the world of architecture and product design and the creative industries that surround it. It teaches students how to think like a designer and approach situations in a creative way both socially and culturally. By developing the skills and techniques of Design and Visual Communication, learners will discover how to give form to and express their ideas.
In this course you will learn how to:
Develop free hand drawing skills to express your ideas with both 2D and 3D drawing
Create drawings using computer applications
Design architecture and products
Read and interpret design briefs
Develop Adobe Illustrator skills to present your ideas to an audience
Reflect on your design thinking using design principles to improve your design ideas
In year 11 Design and Visual Communication you will:
Generate a spatial design
Generate a product design
Model making and presentation
Computer generated drawings
Research and Evaluation
Your work will be assessed through internal assessments and external exams.
Standard AS92000 - Generate product or spatial design ideas using visual communication techniques in response to design influences (internal)
Standard AS92001 - Use representation techniques to visually communicate own product or spatial design outcome (internal)
Standard AS92002 - Develop product or spatial design ideas informed by the consideration of people (external)
Standard AS92003 - Use instrumental drawing techniques to communicate own product or spatial design outcome (external)
