Technology is intervention by design. It uses intellectual and practical resources to create technological outcomes, which expand human possibilities by addressing needs and realising opportunities. Effective and ethical design respects the unique relationship that New Zealanders have with their physical environment and embraces the significance of Māori culture and world views in its practice and innovation.

The focus of this course is on building knowledge and skills in fashion and textile design through the development of a range of products and practical outcomes.
Students will learn:
The design process with a focus on fashion and product design
Basic pattern making and garment construction skills
A variety of creative textile techniques
Students will:
Use technological practice to address a brief with specifications for a person, whānau, or community
Design and make two textile products
Use the design process to develop a design for a specified person, whānau, or community
Apply sustainable practices in the development of a design.
Experiment with materials to explore their properties and characteristics in the development of an outcome
Your work will be assessed through two internal achievement standards and one external achievement standard.
Standard AS92102 - Develop a materials and processing technology outcome for an authentic context (internal)
Standard AS92103 - Develop a materials and processing technology outcome by transforming, manipulating, or combining different materials (internal)
Standard AS92104 - Demonstrate understanding of sustainable practices in the development of a materials and processing technology design (external)
