Food plays an important role in bringing people together and fostering a sense of belonging, across the diverse cultures of Aotearoa New Zealand. Food is not merely a source of sustenance, it is a form of expression and identity. Through Hospitality and Catering, students will gain essential and valuable life skills and attributes, enabling them to enhance the health and well-being of not only themselves but of their whānau and the wider community.

The aim of this course is to provide students with the confidence, knowledge and essential skills for a career in catering and hospitality.
In this course students will study food and catering. Topics will include: basic nutrition, culinary items and food contamination.
Students will further develop essential skills crucial to advance in a career in hospitality and catering. Students will need to work in realistic practical sessions producing quality food products. Practical sessions beyond the classroom are a vital component of the course and students will be expected to be involved in these in order to be successful.
Your work will be assessed through internal unit standards.
