The social sciences learning area is about how societies work and how people can participate as critical, active, informed, and responsible citizens. Contexts are drawn from the past, present, and future and from places within and beyond New Zealand.

This course is aimed at those students wishing further study within Commerce.
The study of this course helps students with the practical aspects of running their own business and aspects of being self-employed. They will experience first-hand what it is like to operate a business by understanding a fundraising project. Students will work through units on motivating employees, market research and internal/external factors on a large sized business.
You will establish and run your own business as well as integrating all the factors affecting large sized New Zealand business.
You will be assessed on internal and external standards.
Standard AS90843 - Demonstrate understanding of the internal operations of a large business (external)
Standard AS90844 - Demonstrate understanding of how a large business responds to external factors (external)
Standard AS90846 - Conduct market research for a new or existing product (internal)
Standard AS90847 - Investigate the application of motivation theory in business (internal)
Standard AS90848 - Carry out, review and refine a business activity within a community context with guidance (internal)
