To gain theoretical, practical and seasonal experience with producing plants commercially in a nursery. To build knowledge of environmental management in sustainable orchards or forestry production. To develop safe work practices.
Students will learn how to propagate plants from seeds and cuttings, manage environmental factors, and optimise crop, orchard and forestry production. They will learn how to prune fruit, forestry and amenity trees. Students will learn how to identify hazards, and minimise risks in the agricultural industry.
You will:
Propagate seeds and cuttings
Prepare and manage garden beds
Prune trees and shrubs
Hands on experience through field trips
Work alongside professionals in the AgHort industry
Your work will be assessed through a range of internal and external standards taken from
Standard US31656 - Health and Safety (10 credits, internal)
Standard US29495 - Controlling weeds (2 credits, nternal)
Standard US29506 - Cutting propagation (5 credits internal)
Standard US29508 - Sow seeds and monitor germination (5 credits internal)
Standard AS91291 - Advanced propagation (4 credits internal)
Standard AS91290 - Modifying environmental factors for plant production (4 credits external)
