Physical Education uses a range of physical contexts to cover human movement; anatomy and biomechanics, safety in the outdoors, improving physical performance through training, motor learning techniques, leadership, and significant issues in NZ society. In this subject, students learn in, through, and about movement.

NOTE: Students should not be selecting more than two PE options as part of a completed timetable. H.O.D. approval is required if students wish to take more than 2 PE courses (ie 12OE and 12PS).

This course is designed for those wishing for further study in Physical Education. This course will involve a variety of sporting and physical activity contexts to allow students to learn in, through and about movement.
In this course you will learn about:
the science behind performance and training improvement
how the knowledge of biophysical principles can assist you in learning a new skill
the impact of physical activity on self, others and society
how sporting events can be influenced by sociological factors
Students will learn how to improve their performance using a variety of different biophysical principles. Students will learn through movement and be expected to be active participants in the practical lessons, as well as theory lessons. Students will create a training program for themselves in order to prepare for the Tough Guy/Gal Adventure race.
Your work will be assessed through both practical and written internal achievement standards.
