The social sciences learning area is about how societies work and how people can participate as critical, active, informed, and responsible citizens. Contexts are drawn from the past, present, and future and from places within and beyond New Zealand.

This course is aimed at those students wishing further study within Economics.
The study of this course helps students with an understanding of the current economic issues facing New Zealand. In particular, you will focus on the allocation of resources (micro economics) and government intervention in the New Zealand economy (macro economics).
Students develop economic literacy, research skills, and critical thinking relating to current NZ economic issues whilst applying these to real life scenarios.
You will be assessed on internal and external standards.
