Impact on teaching virtually during a pandemic
Abby's take on learning virtually
Abby's reaction to going virtually
Not being able to see her friends in person
Abby had to adapt her study skills
As a result of the global pandemic caused by COVID-19, higher education has been affected at a global level and more specifically in Spain, wherein mid-March the state of alarm was declared, with the state and university academic authorities decreeing that, for the remainder of the 2019–2020 academic year, teaching and learning processes would be carried out digitally. (Torres Martín et al., 2021) As a result of this there was data that was carried out on the following topics Connection and habitual frequency.,Control of student activities. Group monitoring. Individual monitoring. Degree of participation. Connection time.Connection time. (Torres Martín et al., 2021) here is what the data said,Firstly, with regard to care and support, the graph reveals that more than half of the students do not express a favourable opinion (dissatisfied or very dissatisfied) on any issue.(Torres Martín et al., 2021) There is real dissatisfaction with individual follow-up, as almost 74% of those surveyed said they were not satisfied with the teaching work in this area, while three out of five students felt that the task of support in order to go deeper into the subject, give advice and stimulate students, involve students and follow up in groups, was rather scarce on the part of the teachers. Only over 50% of favourable opinions were expressed in terms of reinforcement and resolution of doubts. (Torres Martín et al., 2021) As you can see covid 19 has a very big impact on virtual education. now that we have gone through the effects of covid 19 from an anilitical perspective let go through it from a parents perspective for example, It’s and adjustment adapting from a traditional classroom to virtual. Being home is a different pace for kids. Motivation to complete assignments and stay engaged in the class becomes challenging. Creating structure and helping students with time management can be helpful, but because the in-class accountability is missing, assignment deadlines get missed. (2020)
Who I Interviewed
The person I interviewed was my sister Abby. I wanted to interview her because as a result of my dad having Covid 19 she was the most affected as far as her education.
Let me introduce the person I interviewed. She is my sister. Abby is fourteen years old and she goes to Catholic High school. She loves playing field hockey and running track. She also loves spending time with her friends and family. As far as her study habits go good grades don't come naturally to her she has to work for every good grade. As you will find out she had to completely rework the way she learned. Next I am going to be going through three takeaways that Abby had.
First takeaway
The first takeaway Abby experienced was frustration because this was when she got the call that she could not come to school for two weeks because one of her classmates had covid-19. She was so upset and crushed initially she stated” how could this be possible”. She later understood why this had to happen and that it was for her own good.
Second takeaway -The second takeaway Abby experienced was when it came to not being able to see her friends in person for two weeks. It was hard for her to accept at first but she eventually learned that this is such a small thing to have to deal with and that she should not sweat the little things in life.
third takeaway-The Third a final takeaway that Abby experienced was when it came to having to do all her classes virtually was that she had to completely learn how to adapt her study skills. This was because Abby stated that it was much harder for the information that she was learning to stick in her mind. she started to have to make flashcards. I also had to quiz her a lot. It would have been easier if she was in person. Abby is a very visual learner so when her ability to see what was going in the classroom was taken away she struggled. she also had trouble learning the material and studying because when she had a question she did not have the option of just going up to the teacher and asking her a question. Abby had to email the teacher and wait for a response a lot of times by the time the teacher answered the question they had already moved on the the unit they were studying. another study technique abby had to develop was going over the material multiple times before the test.
conclusion -Based on the information I have reviewed I believe that this experience with covid 19 has not only made Abby stronger but also made her a better student and she will also do better in the long run for having this experience.
