Who Am I
My name is Jami and I am an Early Education Major.
I'm a 90's kid through and through and given the choice will still watch the original Pokemon, Yugioh, Courage the Cowardly dog and any other shows from back then.
I have three wonderful albeit crazy cats- Spooky, Shadow and Leroy.
I may not believe in Astrology but I am a Taurus and I can be the really hard headed sometimes.
I love all things crime. Crime Junkie is my favorite podcast and I go to sleep to Forensic Files.
My favorite holiday is Halloween and I don't care how old I am, I will dress up
Baking is a passion and I try a new recipe every weekend.
I've wanted to be a teacher since kindergarten and inspire to be as exciting as Bill Nye or Ms. Frizzle.

The being unique or different is what makes us human and should be cherished.
As someone who suffered from bullying my K-12 career, I know the lasting effects it can cause.
School can be difficult and we should all strive to make is a safe and happy place
School can also be boring and we should try to create a fun environment while furthering education.
Teaching is a never ending learning experience
We all have something to offer. We just have to work together and find it.

It's okay to say no. One person can't do it all.
I want to learn about the different backgrounds that my future students will come from so I can help all feel included.
Sometimes you have to take a step back, take a deep breathe before approaching issues in order to understand the other side.

Learn from mistakes and accept criticism to learn.
What works for some students may not work for others. Plan for alternatives.

My most cherished memories from my past teachers are from when I was at my worst. In 10th grade, I was placed into foster care due to many traumatic evens from childhood and I wanted to give in every sense. They really encouraged me to keep on going and just keep fighting. Below are just a handful of things that my teachers did to help me.

Below are just a handful of things that my teachers did to help me.
My 10th grade AP European History teacher noticed how tired I was and let me sleep through my first period.
For my Senior project, I wrote a book detailing my childhood that I read to my fellow students and teachers. It was very hard and every one of my teachers helped keep me motivated to keep writing and when it was all done, we had a good cry together.
The biggest thing that was done was the mutual understanding of what I was going through and that I would need accommodations in terms of finishing assignments and extra help and for that I am forever thankful.
These teachers are my inspiration and fuel my desire to help others.

What kind of teacher I want to be?
I want a nice balance between student-centered and teacher-centered teaching.
I will welcome feedback from all sources including students, their parents, co-workers and upper administration.
I want to be the teacher that students can look back and remember joy.
I prefer the academic and existentialism approach.
I want to include students in the process of how we learn. Students can come with some amazing ideas.
I want to create a safe space for my students and help them as much as possible but also foster a desire to learn and be themselves.
