Who I Am?
I am a sophomore at Old Dominion University studying Early Childhood Education with a minor in Special Education. I love working with children and watching them grow up. When I was growing up I had many medical problems when I was born. I was in and out hospitals and seeing different doctors for numerous reasons. Growing up like that as a children was very difficult when I started school because I was called different I wasn't the ordinary type of kid. This help me grow as a better person and learning the different types of situations people went through in life. My medical life experience as a child helped me grow and made me realized I wanted to help people, so I really loved working with children so I decided that being a kinderngarten teacher would be the best fit for me. Many children have struggles in school I have ADHD and that's another one of my biggest struggles when learning and it's very common in young children.
What I Know?
I know how mental health is a big struggle in schools, even in younger children.
Younger Children learn better with hands on activities better than just hearing a teacher talk.
I know children have a wonderful imangtion so their minds are so fulfilled with wonderful ideas that they try to experiment.
What I Have Learned?
I have learned that children are upset this year because of the pandemic and they can't interact with other children because they have to stay 6ft apart when in school.
I have learned that Special Education teachers are needed right now because it's such a low quality in public schools because most teachers don't have both degrees.
I have learned nowadays their are many younger children that get diagnosed with special needs and need assistance just starting out in kindergarten.
What I Want To Learn?
I want to learn how to work with Special Needs children it's been one of my dreams since I was a child and I love helping other people.
I want to be able for children to come to me when they need help or just need someone to talk to. I want to be the ear to listen to them and a child not be scared to talk to an adult.
Children have such and imagination so I want to be able to understand how a child is feeling or what she's seeing that an adult doesn't because that child has created an image in their minds.
The Teacher I Will Become
Students want to strive academically in school so I know that I will be that teacher who helps them get their in the most successful way in learning.
I will be that teacher who sits down and talks to her students when they need someone to talk to or just a shoulder to cry on.
I will be that teacher who develops strong relationship bonds with her students.
As a teacher, I will allow my students to express their ideas with collabtive activites.
I will become that teacher who successfully help her students become the best people they can grow up to be and how successfully they learned.
