My Story
I was raised in a military family, traveling from state to state and living in many different places, eventually settling down in Virginia Beach, VA with my mom, dad, and little brother. Since then, I've had two big things impact me as a person: being diagnosed with ADHD at a young age, and my love for history and soon my desire to become a teacher would soon follow.
My Hobbies
Growing up, I've always loved reading, and my personal favorite thing to read is manga (Japanese comic books). I have a whole collection of manga books, and I won't stop collecting and reading them.
I'm a giant music junkie. I grew up with artists like Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Elvis Presley, but as I got older I got to explore different music tastes and artists. Now I have a wide variety of different music that I love, for example, K-pop, electro-pop, modern rock, and r&b.
I'm very much into pop culture, and one of the biggest things that I'm into is Doctor Who, which was one of the biggest influences on my love for history.
What I know
As the world continues to grow and expand in knowledge, so does that amount of history we intake. I know that becoming a teacher to teach those about our world about us is essential so they know what mistakes they should avoid and which decisions they should make.
I know that as a teacher, one of the most important parts of being a teacher is being able to be there for their students when they don't know a specific part of the material. We teach and show them the proper ways to learn things, and if they're misguided, then we guide them in the right direction.
What I have to learn
I still need to learn that not all students work the same way. We all learn in different ways, and as a teacher, you need to adjust to all learning types.
As a teacher, one of the biggest responsibilities is to care for the students during school, even if they're going through a lot outside of school. I need to learn to adjust to their daily lives outside of school by giving them assignments that won't stress them out going forward.
I want to take steps into becoming a creative teacher. Creativity is super important to enhance a student's potential into becoming a great student. Not all learning is through notes.
The Teacher I will Become
If I had to describe my students with one word, it would be determined. I want my students to be willing to walk into class every day and be willing to learn, having that determination to learn about the world around us.
The purpose of school is to set our students up for what they want to become in the future. Learning about the world around them through different lenses is super important, cause the more lenses they see-through, the more views they have on the world, and they can choose to pick on what exactly they want to focus on in the future.
The way I want my students to be sitting in class is in rows, facing me at all times. Because of this, their attention is on me, and I can keep an eye on them at all times.
On some occasions, I will put the desks into groups if we're doing group projects, and once the projects are over, we revert the desks back to teacher-focused.
If I were to describe myself as a teacher, I would say I'm youthful. I'm all for being a quirky fun teacher while still maintaining the stern strict learning style that a teacher must present. As a teacher, you must think like your students, and fit in with their lingo, keeping up with the modern times alongside them while continuing to teach them.
One of the most important things I would establish in my classroom is that they need to meet me at least once to talk about their life. I want to know what happens outside of school so that way I can adjust to what would suit them the best. Over time as I grow as a teacher, I would apply what I learned and use it to create homework and classwork that would be easy for them to maintain and manage.
If someone were to walk into a classroom, they would see a teacher who is dedicated to their craft, more than willing to let the students engage into saying something about what they learned.
