My name is Allison Lodge and I am a sophomore this year. My major is in history with a concentration in teacher preparation. I was born in Indiana and I am 20 years old. I currently work at Chick-fil-A as a team leader. My friends and, especially, family make me who I am today. I am very family-oriented and they mean the absolute world to me. My environment has shaped my ideas and persona tremendously. I was raised to always have an open mind and to have open arms for anyone, which has shaped me a lot because even today I am very empathetic to anyone and everyone that I see or meet. My influences for teaching have mainly been my high school teachers. The majority of the teachers that I had were always so caring and truly loved what they did and loved their students. The way my teachers have always aided their students to push me to strive to try my best for my future students and truly care for them as their educator.
What I understand about the world is that everything is always changing and adapting and as the future progresses, we need to be more flexible and adapt as the world changes. I can teach my classmates that as the future progresses and new generations continue to come in, we need to be able to adapt to new teaching methods as the newer generations roll in because they are going to be raised on whatever new technology is being created. I can teach my students in order to become better people to be humble and that there will always be hard times, like the pandemic, and they need to look out for one another.
What is still need to learn to become a more effective teacher is that not every student is going to learn the same way and I need to learn alternate ways to get the point across and keep it entertaining for students with activities, such as Kahoot, Jeopardy, etc. I will challenge myself to grow as a person to learn more about students I will teach and what I will need to reach them is by stepping out of my comfort zone to make the students comfortable and able to understand the topic thoroughly, as well as doing activities that require the students and myself all interacting with each other. What I will do to become the kind of teacher that I strive to be is get to know each individual student, understand how they learn, and truly be able to understand them and who they are.
The teacher that I want to become is one that is very empathetic with the students that I teach. I want my students to be able to reach out to me whether it is personal or has something to do with school. To me, the purpose of school is to educate children and help prepare them for their futures and life after high school. The most important things that my students will learn, being history related, is that history is crucial for society. History provides information on what has happened in our past and provides information to learn from the past and prepares us for the future, especially since we learn from our past. The students will learn this by developing analytical skills that question what has happened and why and what we can do to try to prevent this from happening again if it is something bad. My students will learn through various activities, such as walk-about projects, Kahoot, Jeopardy, other games and activities, and lectures. Educational experiences that I will provide are fun activities and interesting videos to keep the students engaged. My students will value that they must work together and understand they must look after one another. I will interact with them in a caring matter and get to know each student. I hope to get my students to get to know one another and interact in a positive manner in the classroom setting with each other and outside of the classroom setting. One word that best describes me as a teacher is caring. One word that best describes my students is open-minded. If a visitor walked into my classroom, they would see my students interacting and working together, while having fun as they learn, but not so much as fun as that it is uncontrollable.
My Students need to be able to step out of their comfort zone since as adults they will need to in order to succeed
As a teacher, I want to inspire students to continue with higher education and achieve all of their future goals.
Students will need to respect each other in order to learn how to do teamwork which will be essential in their lives.
I want to guide my students to be their best selves and to help them grow into young adults.
I want to incorporate technology into everyday class so that students will learn how to effectively use technology since it is becoming very important for us in the world.
Hey Allison good work on your slide, it looks great. You're right the world changing more and more each day, and as the world changes and evolves, so do our lessons and techniques. From reading your site you sound more than confident, and surly will make for a valuable educator. Well take care Allison and best wishes to you.
Hello Allison! I think its awesome that you are going into history, when i was in school history was my favorite subject. I also think it is important to keep up with new technology because it is always being used. - Hallie Cordrey
