Until recently I had been working at Minnieland Academy as a 3 year-old teacher. Most people don't think of a 3 year-old teacher as an actual teacher, which could not be more wrong. I believe this job has given me the ability to create interactive and fun, yet still academic and on-curriculum lessons.
If a lesson can hold a 3 year-olds attention, it can definitely hold a grad-schooler's!
As the teacher of younger children, I am aware that my weak point is connecting with older children. Finding a way to connect with upper-elementary schoolers is very important in this field. I also feel that it is important to continue to educate yourself, as well as keeping up with the ever changing ways to accomplish things. Being able to teach subjects that aren't you strong suit is an important .
It is also important for me to learn how to loosen the reigns. In a 3 year-old classroom it is a good and necessary thing to hold the reigns tight but, the older children get the more they need to be allowed to make decisions for themselves.
My educational philosophy contains characteristics based on Essentialism and Progressivism. I also believe that for the grades I am planning to teach (lower elementary), the instruction should be teacher based.
I believe at the elementary and middle levels standards should be at a national level with some state specific aspects and possibly local history sprinkled in. For high school students, I believe school should be more student and real world based.
