My name is Rene Fiore. I was born in Wiesbaden, Germany. I am the oldest child of 4. I spent most of my life in Maryland. I am currently attending ODU in hopes of getting a history degree to teach. I grew up in the competitve dance world. I spent my free time student teaching as much as I could. After I graduated high school in 2003, I spent a little over 10 years working for Red Robin. I would travel the country training new team members in our new restaurants. I've always enjoyed being a mentor to people. My grandfather was a teacher and principle in Georgetown, Guyana. My father is currently teaching ROTC at a high school in Newport News. And my sister is an elementary school teacher. You could say teaching is in our blood. I am now married with 2 kids.
What I do know is that in order to survive teaching you will need A LOT of coffee!
I know that teaching takes a lot of time. Time in school. Time learning. And time outside of class. I know you bring work home with you.
It's okay to not know all the answers. This is for both student and teacher. I think it is important to be able to ask for help and to also be the person someone can come to when they need help.
I want to be the teacher who is your biggest advocate. I want to be the teacher that inspires. The teacher you trust. I want to be the teacher you remember. I want my students to value empathy. When someone walks into my classroom, I want them to see an engaged class. I believe the educational philosophies that best describe me are progressivism and reconstructionism. I just hope that along with history, I can teach kids to become good human beings and know their self worth.
