WHO AM I?
WHAT I KNOW
Life experiences shape each and every person. Everyone in this world has different experiences that help them develop their understanding of the world. In my life so far I have had a fair share of experiences that have given me a broader understanding of the world around me. I am going to share some of the most important things I have learned throughout life with you.
Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about, so always choose kindness. Before jumping to conclusions you should always consider what that person may be going through. Being understanding and kind to others is the key to developing a more positive outlook on the world around you. A simple act of kindness can go a long way and can spread positivity farther than you know. Being understanding and kind is critical for educators in all areas. Teachers can choose to be understanding towards a student who may not be doing well in class by providing them opportunities to do better, while other teachers may deem them a troubled student without knowing what they are battling. The same applies to students, they need to understand the importance of spreading kindness not only to their classmates, but everyone else in their lives as well.
Growing up my family experienced many trials, through these trials we would always choose to find the silver linings. My mom would say "Its always an adventure", which reminded us that perspective is everything and we could choose whether or not to embrace the world with a positive lens rather than a negative one. Although a positive perspective is important, there is a difference between positivity and toxic positivity. You should never force yourself into believing that everything is okay because you do not want to ask for help. It is still okay to feel sad or angry, so do not confuse a positive outlook with pretending that everything is okay all of the time. A positive outlook is knowing that you will be able to overcome the challenges you face, it doesn't mean that the challenges you face are not hard and do not allow for negative emotions. I think a positive outlook is something that every student should learn how to develop in order to figure out ways to find confidence within themselves to overcome obstacles they face throughout life.
It can be tempting to only feel motivated to give when you know you are going to receive. Whether that means give your time for money or give your kindness for recognition. Although it seems hard to give without gaining anything in return, I think it is very important to do so. It is so rewarding to spread positivity and light throughout the world, even if you earn nothing in return. I think learning to give without receiving is important for teachers and students alike. There are going to be many situations where you can choose to give your time, knowledge, effort, and more without gaining anything in return. I think it is key to understand that although you may not be receiving something, it is extremely rewarding to know that you have helped someone. Here is a quote that I really enjoy that reflects this concept:
"Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are." - Harold S. Kushner
THE TEACHER I WILL BECOME
The purpose of school is to acquire important social and academic skills that will benefit students in their future endeavors. The most important thing my future students will learn is problem solving and critical thinking, and how to apply those skills outside of the classroom. My students will learn these skills in a hands on manner where they can be immersed in the curriculum. My students and I will value respect, determination, and a positive mindset. My students and I will interact with one another cooperatively, making group decisions and sharing respect with one another. The philosophies that best describe my views on teaching are social reconstructivism and progressivism. I want my students to know how to identify problems and be able to work together in order to successfully solve those problems. A word that would describe me as a teacher is a gardener, as I will cultivate growth in my classroom. A word that best describes my students is seeds, as they will grow into amazing adults ready to take on the world. When somebody enters my classroom they will see a space of collaboration and curiosity.
I will be a teacher who inspires students to be the best individuals they can be inside and outside of the classroom. I will be understanding and compassionate. I will work cooperatively with my students to create a learning environment centered around their success.
I really liked the draw my life video- that's a huge blast from the past lol! I went through a lot of struggles when I was in Elementary and Middle School as well, and that's largely what motivates me to want to become a teacher, and I'm really glad to see I'm not alone in that. -Noah T.
I like the idea of of your video introduction. Very well planned and very articulate. I wish I can be that vocal too! Well, if you need help in Math, I can be of help! -Evangeline Tamayo
First off, your page was done so well! Secondly, I love your statement "Kind People are my Kinda People," and I agree with that whole heartedly. I also love the section "its always an adventure," because by nature I am a positive person and actually some of the times I am most down is when the people around me are being negative, so I love how you wrote about seeing life positively. -Chloe Hulls
