Who Am I?
My name is Samantha Lewis, Sam or Sami for short. I am the introverted bookworm who found her way towards leadership and eventually figured out she wanted to teach! My passions include music and art, and I’ve participated in marching band for the last seven years and served as one of the captains for a year. My mom inspired me to be a teacher and my grandmother taught me to love books and find a whole new universe within them, so I’m glad to live the dreams they had for me.
What I Know
I know how to be the shoulder to cry on, to help students in need stand again on their feet. I know how to make the classroom a safe space for all genders, races, and identities. I know that the most difficult students to reach are the ones who need the most help. I know that even though I may not be every student’s favorite teacher, I will be the one who is there for them.
What I Need to Learn
I need to learn my boundaries and limits in the classroom. I need to learn how to plan a lesson and work with school/district curriculum guidelines. I need more professional classroom experience, being a student captain is very different. I need to know that there is always something to learn, no matter where you are in life.
The Teacher I Will Become
I will become the teacher my students know they can trust. I will become the teacher who encourages participation in the way they know how. I will be the teacher who knows how to engage without constant lectures. I want to be the teacher who tells them it is okay to fail as long as they get back up.

Hello. I love that you were in a marching band and that you were in color guard for seven years. I also was in color guard for five years. Being a teacher will make your mom proud and overall make yourself proud. - Miah Thomas
Hey Samantha! I'm also pretty introverted, but that's awesome you've been in marching band and served as captain! That already shows you have great leadership skills. It's cool that your mom is the one who really encouraged you to teach. You will be a great teacher! -Laurie Ummels
