Hi Everyone! My name is Hannah Miller, I am a sophomore and I am majoring in Elementary Education. I would love to teach first grade but any grade in elementary would be fine with me. I was originally born in Burlington Vermont and moved to Gloucester Virginia when I was about seven years old. In my family I have four brothers and I am the baby of the family. I am also the first person in my family to go to college. I see myself as a very caring and kind hearted person, I always put people before myself. I am also very determined person and set goals for myself. I would not be where I am today without my mom, she has pushed me to be the best person I can be at all times and was the main person to help make my dreams successful. On my free time I love to go shopping, taking pictures, and to paint when I am able to.
In my background experiences is what made me want to become a teacher. I did gymnastic from ages five to thirteen and then I switched over to competitive cheerleading when I was thirteen at Fame Allstars. It was really cool because every year I would travel around the country to go to big competitions. The coolest place I have competed was Orlando Florida on ESPN and Dallas Texas. I have carried on my sport of cheerleading further in college. I am currently on the ODU cheerleading team. throughout my many years of gymnastic and cheerleading, I have coached a cheerleading team at Fame Allstars from the ages six to eleven. I did it for about four years until I had to go to college, but it was one of the best experiences I have had. When I was teaching the kids what I loved too and was so passionate it about, it made them want to learn. I loved how I was able to share what I loved and it made what they now love to do. The light on their faces when they got a skill or just wanted to learn something new, is what made me want to become a teacher.
I have learned with my experience that kids are so different. That what might have might have worked one probably will not work the next. I need to learn how to be confident in myself. I am very bad about doubting myself and my abilities on how to do things. I also need to learn how not to take things so personal. I am a very sensitive person and cannot take everything to heart. Another thing I need to learn is how to be patient. Sometimes I get too ahead of myself and want things done right away.
The type of teacher I want to become is an outgoing teacher where the kids are engaged and want to learn. I would love to be the teacher where they have someone to talk to and that they are able to trust me. I want my students to know it is ok if you do not pick up on a topic quickly, that it can take some time and that I am whiling to help every step so they understand it.
Hello Hannah! I think your page is very cute I love the colors and the pictures that you chose to add. I loved hearing about how you coached younger kids in cheerleading. I did a very similar thing with field hockey and I loved it. I think your experience with younger kids will be very helpful in your classroom, especially since you want to work with elementary kids. Great job!! :) -Elizabeth Mann
Hi Hannah! I too admire my mom as the person who formed me to be the person I am today. Amazing at how much strong women can influence us! I see that you enjoy the interest that children have when they're learning something new. I definitely believe that's the best motivator for an educator. I too aspire to be an educator who is outgoing because I believe the bolder the teacher, the greater the impact we can have on a students life. - K Holloway
Hannah, I love your page and how the colors seem to match the cover photo, beautiful. I am impressed with your gymnastics/Cheer career and how you have used it to explore the world of teaching children. By transferring your enthusiasm for Gymnastics and Cheerleading into a classroom, I am sure you will be able to overcome your confidence issues. I am certain it takes loads of confidence to push yourself to perform flips and tumbles in front of crowds of people. Just keep your positive attitude and I am sure you will excel as a teacher of young minds.- Kyrie Boyle

Hello Hannah! I love the colors and flowers on your page, it looks so good! I love how you noted that all kids are different and just because something works for one person doesn't mean it will work for everyone. It took me awhile to not only learn this, but learn how to think about that while making lessons and teaching. - Hallie Cordrey
