WHO I AM
I am Alysha Daubon and I am a sophomore Early Childhood Education major. After I graduate, I plan to start off by teaching Kindergarten! If my heart leads me to teach other grades after that, then I am completely open to it. I was raised in Suffolk, Virginia, and come from a loving family. I graduated from Nansemond River High School in the year 2019, and I am the second person in my family to attend college! I currently work as a teacher assistant, which is a position that I truly value. Through this opportunity, I am able to receive hands-on experience directly related to my major, which encourages me to work even harder towards my goal of becoming a teacher.
MY INFLUENCE TO BECOME A TEACHER
Growing up, with my father serving active duty in the military having to go on many deployments, my mother had to take on the role of essentially being a single mom, while also financially providing for her children as well. My mother worked in multiple childcare facilities and gained a lot of experience on what it meant to play such an influential role in the early stages of the lives of children. With my Father being away a lot of the time, my Mother chose to open her own in-home childcare facility. She showcased love in every act that she completed in childcare. Whether it was reading a story to the children, completing circle time, or simply playing outside with them, a feeling of passion simply filled her soul and shined through her. By growing up and watching my Mother love her career, I grew to love the idea of providing such an impactful foundation for children too, which is why I chose to pursue Early Childhood Education.
I know that as an educator I will play an important role in the lives of many students.
I know that I want to create a comfortable space for children to learn and grow in.
I know that every human, no matter their race, gender, or beliefs, should be respected and every voice should be heard. I plan to teach my students the importance of approaching their classmates with kind hearts.
I know that I will always go the extra mile for my students to ensure that they are successful and confident in everything that they do.
I know that I will do my best to make a positive change through the children of the future, even if it is through one student at a time.
WHAT I KNOW
WHAT I HAVE TO LEARN
I need to better my understanding of technology and how to effectively incorporate it into the classroom.
I need to take the time to challenge myself to become educated on other cultures and beliefs.
I need to learn how to gain more confidence in the ideas that I come up with.
I need to learn how to create effective lesson plans.
I need to better my knowledge of classroom management.
THE TEACHER I WILL BECOME
I believe that a school's purpose is to academically provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to further assist them in life and in their future careers. However, I also believe that a school creates a place of opportunity to learn social and civic skills as well.
I will become a teacher that does not dismiss the feelings of students. Sometimes students simply may not understand a lesson, and I will be the teacher that has the patience to work through it with them.
I will become a teacher that provides students with memorable educational experiences.
I will become a teacher that develops relationships with students.
As a teacher, I will allow my students to explore their ideas with their classmates through collaborative activities.
I will become a teacher that educates successful, creative scholars that are confident in the work that they put out.
