Who Am I?
My name is Olivia Brown. I am a Sophomore at Old Dominion University. My major is Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology.
I was born in Hollywood, Florida and moved to Northern Virginia during my Freshman year of high school. I am an only child and grew up in a happy and healthy environment with the most supportive parents.
Since I was 5 years old, I have always wanted to teach. I used to play teacher all throughout my childhood. My goal is to become a first grade teacher after I graduate.
What I Know
Every student is different and special in their own way.
Getting to know your students is important.
Always be open-minded and kind.
Teachers should make the classroom a safe and comfortable space for everyone.
Even on bad days, put on a smile for your students!
Students learn at their own pace, so be patient.
Diversity and representation is important.
What I need to learn
No matter how much experience you have in a classroom, there is always room for improvement. I need to learn how to manage a classrooom with patience. From what I have experienced, it's really easy for me to get overwhelmed when students get a little crazy. Classroom management is hard but it is so important. I also want to be more creative when it comes to lesson planning. From my experience, students gain the most out of hands-on activities. Learning should be fun!
The Teacher I will Become
As a teacher, I will always strive to be a positive influence in my student's lives. You never know what they are going through at home, so it is important to create a happy environment at school. I will be firm and create boundaries in the classroom, but also caring and warmhearted. I still remember how I was treated by all of my teachers and I want to have a special influence on their lives. I will be prepared and organized so there is less chaos in the classroom. Students thrive off of STRUCTURE!

Hi Olivia, beautiful page! Your page is very appealing to the eyes, and I loved your writing style. I loved your graphic about fostering student's individual voices! Awesome work! -Amber Pierce
Your page looks lovely and I really liked your positive attitude. I thought it was funny that you used to live in Hollywood, FL because I moved here last year from Hollywood, MD!-- Benjamin
I love how put together your page is! I think it's really neat that you've gotten so much experience with students, and had a desire to teach from such a young age! -Noah Tench
I agree that it is important to create a happy and safe environment in the classroom. You never know what kinds of homes students live at and it is important to emphasize that your students can confide in you when needed. Your page also has a wonderful color scheme and I love it. -- Valerie Lieske
Hi Olivia. I really like that you pointed out that getting to know your student is important. When students know that you care about them, what they like or don't like, etc. they feel more connected to you and are more receptive to what you are teaching. Often times, students feel like they are just another number in the system, but getting to know your students can make a great impact on them. - Morgan Wilson
Hello Olivia, I think that it is cool that youve wanted to be a teacher since you were five. I have known I wanted to be a teacher since I was in high school. Also, I like how you emphasis throughout your page that every student is different and learns at a pace that is unique to them. I think too many teachers have cookie-cut lesson plans and grading systems and this leaves many capable students behind. - Gabriel McMillan
Hi Olivia, I totally agree with what you said about how there is always room for improvement. I have found in my experience that my kids are always teaching me something new. Every student has their quirks and the toughest part is figuring out how to work with a group of kids that are all so different. Your page is so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. - Sarah Stewart
